Sponsor Refugees

There are different estimates on the number of refugees, but it is around 8 million Ukrainian refugees worldwide. Poland for example, initially had about 2 million Ukrainian refugees, in a country of 40 million people total. By comparison, the U.S. has taken about 1/10th of this amount, and our country is about 10 times as big.  Countries like Poland are running out of resources. Although most refugees expected to be home by now, they are being forced to look for other less temporary places to live.

The United States has developed a program called U4U (Uniting For Ukraine) which allows people in the United States to help sponsor refugees to live in the U.S. for 2 years. We have been learning more about this program as we have helped sponsor people, and we would love to help answer questions.

The most difficult part of sponsoring is finding a place for the refugee(s) to live. If you have an extra bedroom that could take an individual, or maybe a basement with room for a couple, or a mother in law apartment that could house a family, or any other access to a place to live, there are many, many people who would greatly benefit from this.  Please let us know and we can try to find who would be the best fit.

Currently we are working with a few people who are looking for sponsors and there are always more.

There are options for group sponsorship. For example, say there is an apartment for rent at $2,000 / month.  We could get a group of 5 people to contribute $400/month each to cover rent.  Under this program, refugees are eligible for Medicaid, cash assistance, and food stamps for a little while until they can get established to try and provide for themselves.
